Hello, it's been a while! (Part 2: Back home)
Recapping the last couple of weeks. Take a seat and dig in.
Hey cybernauts, sorry to interrupt your almost-the-end-of-the-week groans.
We’ve been so busy with work, and limited by disruptions on our internet service, we’ve gone over a full month without letting you know what’s up in the SF universe. So, we’ve decided to send you a newsletter divided in two, so we can carefully tell you everything that’s been going on.
So, this week, we have the following to share with you:
Post shows cooldown
A playlist of horror shorts
Our meme of the week
Closing the year
The shows keep on coming and we keep on playing
Getting back home after some time off is never easy. Especially since we left sunny Cape Town for rainy Porto. It is what it is, so whatcha gonna do?
While in SA, we got an invitation to play with one of our all-time favourite bands, Deerhoof. So we were really excited about that show. Then we were off to Évora, to play and work at Black Bass Fest, Pointlist’s festival.
Lisbon - Galeria Zé dos Bois

Like stated before, we were really excited to be playing with Deerhoof, and in an awesome venue like Galeria Zé dos Bois, is just a bonus.
Our show was cool, short and sweet, and I’m pretty sure we were playing for mostly people that didn’t know who we were - which is quite rare in Portugal, since our scene is quite small, and you can almost guess who’s gonna be at the shows in different cities. It’s not like we don’t get new people at shows, but on this one, the faces looked less familiar.
Watching Deerhoof play was amazing and left us wanting to get back home and practice our instruments to death. Hopefully, we’ll meet them soon, somewhere.
Setlist:
- Electric Piety
- Zombie
- Oscillations
- A Strange Feeling of Existential Angst
- Programmatic Advertising
- Body Craves Data
- Exit Song
- Monomania (extended)
Évora - Black Bass Fest

Playing Black Bass Fest is always special. Since it’s our booker’s festival, we help out in every way we can - and this means production, bar, whatever is needed. We usually do that every year, and sometimes play. This year’s line-up was filled with amazing bands that elevated this edition to one of the best festivals we’ve been in a while. And of course, the crowd was amazing and wild and just beautiful.
Our show was intense as fuck. I guess that’s what happens when we get stuck between a Hardcore band and a Kraut-dance band. We bulldozed the room with high energy and minimal chat, since we were like the 7th (??) band of the night.
Anyway, always a pleasure to be back at BB, and hopefully see you there next year? We’ll be working at the bar, or backstage, or wherever…
Setlist:

- Castle Spell

Cadima - Lúcia Lima
Lúcia Lima is an association with a motto: Decentralize culture. We’re big fans of that motto, and have been defending it forever. We were supposed to play there in 2020, but in the post-pandemic, the place shut down for renovations and has opened last weekend, with a 3-day opening party. We played Sunday, the last day.
Playing the last day of a 3-day party is quite a task, especially if it’s Sunday afternoon(ish). Sunday vibes, rainy day, people were kinda hangover, all those factors you don’t really want at a show. Although, the show itself was great, people were digging it, dancing and enjoying themselves. We were really surprised by the venue, it’s so cool and definitely has its own vibe! All the team and staff are lovely and friendly. Will definitely want to come back.

Do ya like horror shorts?
We do. You can probably tell by the videos of our songs, like Hasta La Pizza, Rest In Pepperoni, Zombie, Grieving Tomb, and so on.
So, we decided to create a YT playlist with some horror shorts we like. It currently has 17 shorts, but we’re adding them weekly, so feel free to come back and look for new ones!

Our meme of the week
That’s all for 2023, folks!
As we wrap up another year of music and memories, we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. 2023 has been a crazy journey, and we couldn't have done it without your unwavering support.
Our latest record was a testament to our will to push ourselves out of our comfort zone. It was also a subconscious test on what the future holds for us. We’ve had a blast this year, sharing our music with you all, in the comfort of your home or in one of the sweaty venues we played. Thank you for being the driving force behind our performances. Your passion and energy at every concert, your heartfelt messages, and your dedication to our music have been critical to our continuous will to push ourselves forward.
There have been ups and downs, late-night studio sessions, and the thrill of stepping onto stages across two continents, but what stands out the most is the genuine connection we feel with each of you. Your messages, your smiles in the crowd, and the shared experiences at our shows have created memories that will stay with us forever.
As we express our gratitude, we want you to know that you're not just numbers to us, you're a vital part of our story. The music we create is a shared journey, and we're incredibly lucky to have you alongside us for the ride.
Until early 2024, we will be mostly offline to concentrate on writing and recording new music. That means there will be no newsletter for a couple of weeks. I know, we just started sending these again and we’ll stop again. Do not worry, it’s for a good cause!
Wishing you all a fantastic holiday season and looking forward to making more memories together in the coming year!
Thanks for reading this far.
Have a wonderful end to the year. We love you.
— Sunflowers, the band
