Who are SUNFLOWERS (the band)?

Sunflowers emerged from the vibrant underground music scene of Porto, Portugal, in 2014, a city known for its rich cultural history in music and artistic flavour. The brainchild of Carlos de Jesus and Carolina Brandão, Sunflowers was conceived as a boredom alternative, starting as a 60’s inspired garage rock outfit and evolving over the years into a mixture of the raw energy of noise rock with the avant-garde sensibilities of art punk.
From the outset, Sunflowers captured attention with their unapologetic sound and electrifying live performances. Carlos, wielding guitar and synthesizers while unleashing primal vocals, found a kindred spirit in Carolina's thunderous drumming and haunting vocal harmonies. Together, they forged a musical partnership that would become the backbone of Sunflowers' identity.
In 2018, the band welcomed Frederico Ferreira into the fold, adding depth and dimension to their sonic palette with his bass lines. With the lineup solidified, Sunflowers embarked on a relentless journey, carving out a niche for themselves within Portugal's independent music scene and beyond.
Their reputation as one of the most emblematic bands of the Portuguese underground scene quickly spread, fuelled by their intense concerts, irreverent energy, and unwavering commitment to their craft. Sunflowers' live shows became somewhat legendary, chaotic affairs where boundaries blurred, and reality melted away in a haze of noise. It was a common sight to see people mosh pits, crowdsurfing and stage dives.
During live performances, they deliver a sonic trip going from a psychedelic block party to a discharged stabbing session. And the audience loves it, screams for more, shares the energy discharge, propagates it further than any sound system can. No one has ever remained indifferent after the sonic assault from the band - it's impossible - amidst the chaos and noise, there's a sense of catharsis, a feeling of liberation that comes from immersing yourself in something truly unique and unapologetically authentic. By the time the last chord is struck and the final scream fades away, you're left exhilarated, transformed, and hungry for more.
But Sunflowers' influence transcended national borders, as they tirelessly sought to share their music with audiences around the world. From intimate clubs to sprawling festivals, they brought their unique brand of sonic mayhem to over 350 stages far and wide, across more than 20 countries and 2 continents, leaving a trail of mesmerized fans in their wake.
Yet, amidst the chaos and frenzy, there was a method to Sunflowers' madness. Behind the cacophony lay a profound sense of purpose and a desire to challenge the status quo, both musically and culturally. Through their prolific output and uncompromising vision, Sunflowers continue to push the boundaries of what rock music can be, experimenting and reinventing themselves with every release, inspiring a new generation of artists to embrace experimentation and authenticity.
Let them break the symbolic chains that bind our hands, distracting us with screens, gambling houses ads and pointless life hacks videos, because no one will be able to lower the volume of their roars, let alone the volume of their amps.
This is a band that sacrificed their hearing so we could study the oh-so-beautiful Larsen effect up close. It's time to sacrifice yours.
