Who are SUNFLOWERS (the band)?

Sunflowers make noise like it’s a language of survival. Their sound blends blistering punk energy with layers of distortion, experimental chaos, and existential release — always teetering between catharsis and collapse. They are not here to comfort you. They are here to rip the floor out from under you. Their music is a living organism—loud, messy, and mutating in real time.
What starts as raw intensity quickly reveals something deeper: an obsession with pushing boundaries, tearing down expectations, and chasing the next sonic mutation. No two shows are the same. No two records stand still. Their live shows are legendary: primal screams, distortion worship, and an unrelenting energy that refuses to hold back. Chaos isn’t a byproduct — it’s the point.
At their core, Sunflowers are about total immersion. This is not music made for the background — it demands your body, your ears, your surrender. Loud, unrelenting, and weird in all the right ways.
Sunflowers is a band from Porto, Portugal, that’s never afraid to evolve. Formed in 2014 by the duo of Carlos de Jesus and Carolina Brandão, the lineup expanded when Frederico Ferreira joined in 2018, further solidifying the unique chemistry that has become a hallmark of their sound. Just ask anyone who’s seen them live.
Their electrifying stage presence and primal intensity quickly caught the attention of the Portuguese underground, and before long, they were on a relentless tour, spreading their noise across Europe like the plague in 1346. Their blend of punk, noise, and experimental rock has always pushed the boundaries of conventional genres—combining ferocious energy with introspective, often existential themes. “There’s always something to evolve within our sound,” says Carlos. “We’ve never been the kind of band to cosplay ourselves. We’re always reaching for what’s next.”
With Carlos and Carolina’s home and rehearsal/recording studio all under one roof, life is music, and music is life for this singular band. For them, creating music isn’t just a process—it’s a way of being. Their space is a living, breathing entity where creativity flows freely and constantly. That same spirit led to the founding of O Cão da Garagem (2014–2024), a DIY label and collective started by the band to champion up-and-coming acts and connect the creative dots across Portugal. For Sunflowers, it’s not just about writing songs—it’s about living them, whether through late-night recording sessions, impromptu jams, or refining ideas that blur the lines between the personal and the artistic. Their world is a laboratory of sound, and that environment has shaped their ever-mutating identity.
With their debut album The Intergalactic Guide to Find the Red Cowboy (2016) and follow-up Castle Spell (2018), Sunflowers cemented their place in the underground scene, relentlessly pushing sonic boundaries with unmatched energy. Endless Voyage (2020) was a sci-fi odyssey into existential dread and apocalyptic visions, released just weeks before the global lockdown. In 2023, they returned with A Strange Feeling of Existential Angst, a reflection on modern madness that balanced chaos and catharsis in equal measure.
Now, with their latest release, You Have Fallen... Congratulations!, Sunflowers have turned the dial up to 11. Recorded with their signature rawness, the album is a jagged journey through noise rock, punk, and warped pop, delivered with their characteristic unrelenting intensity. It’s the sound of surrender—a blistering soundtrack for anyone who’s ever felt trapped in their own life, staring into the absurdity of it all.
Having long been a fixture in the European underground, Sunflowers continues to make waves—known not only for their music, but for their unapologetic sincerity and defiant approach to art. Their career is defined by constant evolution, a refusal to conform, and an unwavering drive to explore new frontiers in sound and expression. This is a band that sacrificed their earring so we could study the Larsen effect up close. Now, it’s time to sacrifice yours.
